The word “innovation” has become something of a buzzword, but in our industry, it’s still at the forefront of some of the brightest minds in the business.
In August of 2015, renowned Silicon Valley entrepreneur Steve Blank visited our Chantilly headquarters and spoke about the importance of innovation, particularly in the government space. Dr. Anthony Vinci, Associate Director for Capabilities for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) believes it will be the utmost form of in the future.
When Omar and Garrett founded OGSystems, they wanted to do something different — they wanted to bring innovation to create something better. That’s still our driving force to this day. How do we do it? We’ve cultivated a culture and a team that is galvanized around these common beliefs:
We live our purpose
“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” – Simon Sinek
It’s no secret that our CEO is a of Simon Sinek. In a time where companies are rallying to define and communicate their purpose, they often miss the mark by not living it internally first. According to Sinek, inspired organizations — regardless of size or industry — all think, act, and communicate from the inside out. It’s easy to define what we do as a company, but it’s the why that gets us out of bed every day. Why do we exist? At OGSystems, we exist to challenge the intelligence status quo and impact national security.
We believe better is possible
“What you do is the proof of what you believe.” – Simon Sinek
Just because something has been done for years, doesn’t mean it’s the right way or only way to do it. We empower our staff to be stakeholders in our customers’ problems and identify areas for improvement then arm them with the tools they need to approach those problems via our Immersive Engineering methodology. We’re motivated to deliver real impact for our customers to achieve their mission needs in areas long thought untouchable by innovation.
We value our people
“Great companies don’t hire skilled people and motivate them, they hire already motivated people and inspire them.” – Simon Sinek
Our people are our foundation. The velocity of innovation they bring to the customer space every day is palpable and that’s why we invest in their continued education and training, provide career paths with growth opportunities, and maintain a rewards and recognition program for those who go above and beyond. More than anything, we encourage them to explore the art of the possible.
We aren’t afraid to fail
“What good is an idea if it remains an idea? Try. Experiment. Iterate. Fail. Try again.” – Simon Sinek
When faced with a new customer challenge, we embrace the risk of doing it differently. Sometimes it pays off, and other times it doesn’t — but it’s who we are. Every day we remain focused on the innovation and ask ourselves, “Is there a better way?” “How can we deliver more value and mission impact?” We try, experiment, fail, pivot and ultimately find the solution. It’s in taking that first step of actually doing that we learn and ultimately grow.
Additionally, we’ll be at the George Mason Career Fair on February 21, and the James Madison University College of Integrated Science & Engineering Career Fair on February 23. We look forward to meeting you and finding a place for you to effect change for our customers!
